I wrote and recorded Fields Of Flanders while I was a member of K.T. Rouge back in early November of '83. Recorded at Blue Wave Studios, it was featured on the The Waterfront, a 1984 double LP that featured other West Coast artists and bands as well. We played a lot at the Waterfront Cabaret in those days. I still have all the old promo, posters, what have you ... kickin' around somewhere. It was always a cool gig, always one or two other bands on as well each night and then jammin' 'til dawn.
I caught a bad flu in late October of '83 and was laid up for awhile in a cold shack the band rented on Venables Street. And then finally being well enough to play the opening riff that had been going through my head. I was thinking of my Grandfather's letters from the trenches and Remembrance Day was just days away. Finally recording it at breakneck speed to have it ready in time for pressing.
Today I find myself thinking of my Grandfather's letters from the trenches and Remembrance Day is just days away. Lest we forget.
